Has someone ever ask you “How did you get your kids name?” or “Where did their name come from?” I’ve had people ask these questions a few times. Brooklyn and Emileigh (pronounced Emily) are my girls names. Where I live you don’t hear the name Brooklyn  very often and you don’t see the name Emileigh spelled like this.

Brooklyn is named after the New York City borough.  I was going to name her something else, but my sister did not like the name I had chosen. I heard the name Brooklyn a couple of times and really like the way it sounded. My sister really like the name when I mentioned it to her. In 2006, I visited New York City for the first time and I fell in love with the city. I am glad I was able to name her after a place I love. Now whenever she sees the Brooklyn Bridge she calls it her bridge.

With Emileigh my husband and I had a hard time picking a name for her. We wanted a name that would go well with Brooklyn’s name. When we finally agreed on Emileigh’s name I wanted to spell it Emilie. My husband wanted it spelled Emileigh because he wanted to name her after me. He liked the idea of having my name in her name since my middle name is Leigh. I agreed to spell it this way because I loved the thought behind it. I love that Emileigh’s name is spelled differently.

So the other day I went to TJ Maxx just to browse a little. I found this cute  pouch that said MERMAID HAIR, DON’T CARE in the wallet section.

It was the last one so I had to get it. The pouch was only $6.99 compared to $12.00. It is perfect to use in my 5 month old baby girl’s Honest Company City Backpack. In it I put an extra pair of clothes, couple of diapers and wipes. When I have to go change her I just need to take her mermaid pouch and not the whole backpack.

Also, when we get a house soon her room theme is going to be mermaids and the same colors as her pouch.

Giraffe Wubanub

I wanted to do something a little different and mention items that I am loving for my baby girl. With my six year old daughter I used pacifiers for her, but they were just your normal old pacifiers. Before I gave birth to my baby I saw these pacifiers with stuffed animals attached to them. At first I wasn’t interested in these pacifiers. When my baby came home I just used the pacifiers provided by the hospital. At first I didn’t mind it, but I kept losing them and that was frustrating. I bought a pacifier holder that attached to her clothes, but I was afraid it was going to choke her while she was sleeping. When I went to Target I saw the giraffe wubanub and decided to get it even though it was a little pricey. I am so glad I ended up getting her the giraffe wubanub because I feel comfortable with her sleeping with it. She has been using it for about three months now and she loves it. When she doesn’t want to suck on the pacifier she will chew on the giraffe itself.

Penguin Wubanub

I liked the giraffe wubbanum so much I decided to get her the penguin wubanub one as well. The Motherhood Maternity store at the mall near me carried it there. I couldn’t find the link for the penguin wubanub at the Motherhood Maternity website, but I did find it at on Amazon.

Bright Starts Teething Fun Gift Set

Another baby item I like for my daughter is her bright starts teething fun gift set. Since she likes to chew on blankets and burp towels I got this for her to chew on instead. She loves the noise it makes when she is chewing on it and it puts a smile on her face.

Carters Plush Activity Giraffe

This next item is also a toy that my daughter enjoys playing with and chewing on. It’s the carter’s plush activity giraffe. When she is laying down I place the giraffe on her belly so she can see it and she goes to town on chewing the legs. The leg makes that crinkling sound, so she like chewing on it to hear it. Can you tell I have a giraffe theme for her 🙂

BRICA Fold N’ Go Travel Bassinet

The BRICA Fold N’ Go travel bassinet is so handy to use when you are traveling, visiting family at their home, or even around your house. We have gone out-of-town one time with our baby and stayed in a hotel and we brought this with us. Since we weren’t bringing a play pen, this was a good option to use. When we go to a family’s home we take this with us so she won’t be stuck in her car seat when she is sleeping. Around the house we always use the BRICA Fold N’ Go travel bassinet since we don’t have a play pen downstairs to put her in. It’s also good to use for her to take her naps and changing her diapers. I like how it folds up and we can place it in a corner to get it out-of-the-way.

Frida Nasal Aspirator

With this next item people get grossed out  by it, but it works so much better than a bulb syringe aspirator. With the frida nasal aspirator you can use more suction to get those stubborn boogies out. My little one has learned to take it when I suction her nose, but at first she hated it. There is a filter that stops the boogies from going into the suction tube and going into your mouth. I was one of those people who wasn’t going to try this item out. The bulb syringe was not working so I purchased it. I highly recommend the frida nasal aspirator to everyone.

I have been a stay at home mom and wife for the past two and a half years. When my husband said I could put my two weeks notice in I was so happy. On my computer I had my notice typed up just waiting to printed. I remember the look on my bosses face, since she didn’t know I wanted to quit. I was so ready to leave that place because I was no longer looking forward to going into work. My work environment was becoming negative and I didn’t want to be around that.

When I was working, my brother’s girlfriend lived with me and she took care of my daughter. We didn’t want to put our daughter in a day care. This worked out for a couple of months until she found a job and she wasn’t going to be able to watch her anymore. I had to quit my job for this reason as well. My husband and I did not want to put our daughter into a day care for two reasons: 1) day cares are very expensive and 2) we saw some scary things about them on the news and Facebook. That scared us to think that something bad could happen to her and she didn’t know how to tell us since she was little.

Even though we knew we were going to be losing an income for our household, at least we weren’t going to be paying an expensive day care bill every month, save on gas (I worked about 45 minutes away from home), the wear and tear on my vehicle, and we knew our daughter was safe at home with someone who loves and cares for her… her Mom. Fast forward two and a half years later… I am now a stay at home mom with two beautiful daughters.
